About

The National Grid BackupBattery+ is a new program designed to improve grid stability for Fall River, with a focus on supporting the power substation on Bates Street. Qualifying customers served by this station can receive no-cost battery systems – giving them access to reliable backup power while helping lower the risk of outages for the whole neighborhood. They’ll also get $150/year for taking part – guaranteed for 5 years.

You cannot participate in National Grid BackupBattery+ if you have solar panels.

Grid services

When you enroll in the National Grid BackupBattery+ program, your battery will join others to help stabilize the grid during times of high demand. These events typically last a few hours and happen seamlessly in the background. You’ll be reimbursed for any energy discharged during these events on your electric bill.

Your battery will always have reserve capacity. And if there’s severe weather, it will not be used in an event.
